Coastal tips
Salt air is hard on fixings, so ask for stainless steel or hot-dip galvanised screws and brackets. Hardwoods like spotted gum and blackbutt, or a quality composite, stand up best near the beach.
Permits
Some decks need a building permit, depending on height and size. Check with the Surf Coast Shire or a registered building surveyor before work starts.
